Colour therapy is a subtle non-invasive therapy making use of the healing energy contained within the visible rays of colour, which brings in optimum balance of colour energies into the human organism in order to promote harmony and balance between the body, mind and spirit. Colour therapy also encourages us to take personal responsibility for our life and to use the healing power within ourselves.

Colours And Their Effects

Colour can be used for healing and balancing, as well as for stimulating deeper levels of consciousness. Each colour has its own unique effects, from stimulating to depressing, constructive to destructive. Because each person has their own unique energy system, the therapist will experiment to find the most beneficial colour combination for each individual situation.

Healing colours repair the body in a marvellous way. A rainbow of colours can be seen in so many things – it’s reflected everywhere. Colour affects our emotions which will be shown through our bodies. We don’t even have to see colour to be affected by it. Our bodies too act as a prism in the light. When we are well, all the colours shine through us in an ever-changing, rhythmical light. Colour is absorbed by the eyes, skin, affecting every cell in our body. As all cells are light sensitive , so colour vibrations affect their growh and behaviour causing fine bio-chemical changes to take place.

Not only do we take in colour through our eyes and skin, we also draw in light energy through a system of body energy centers, known as the chakras, which are directly linked to the nervous system.

Colour is an excellent diagnostic tool, which can get to the root of an emotional or physical problem, by tapping into the unconscious mind. Colour analysis looks at the colours you like and dislike as these reveal messages coming from deep inside your psyche. This exploration uncovers inner feelings, desires and thought patterns.

Colour can be very useful at times when we are unable to verbalise our feelings, especially at times when we are unsure what our feelings really are. It allows a person to communicate their feelings in times of stress or crisis. The colours we like and dislike help the therapist identify problem areas which can be jointly worked upon.

It is the aim of a colour therapist to help the patient regain balance in their life, and promote harmonious vibrations to create a state of well-being. When this happens it is surprising how many physical ailments disappear.

A Colour Therapist may use counselling, which asks you to select your favourite colours from a selection of coloured cards and will also make recommendations about the therapeutic use of colour in your dress, home, work environment and in your diet.

The Benefits of Colour Therapy

Light is the purest healing force in the universe. Pure white sunlight contains all the elements necessary to keep every living thing in perfect health. Just as we need a balanced diet if we are to be healthy, so too do we need a balance of all the colour vibrations in sunlight to nourish us energetically. When there is too much of one colour energy in our system it literally makes us feel ‘off colour’ and we need to redress the balance.

Colour has a profound affect on our moods and emotions, and we find some colours depressing and others uplifting. The way we deal with stress and our feelings are directly affected by our hormones as well as the brain chemicals circulating in our body. Coloured light travels to the pituitary, the master gland of the endocrine system, affecting our entire metabolism. Our mental state is also directly related to the quality of the light we receive through our eyes. Certain colours calm our minds, while other stimulate mental activity.

Colour Therapy And The Chakras

Each of the spectrum colours is simply light of varying wavelengths, thus each colour has its own particular energy.

The energy relating to each of these spectrum colours resonates with the energy of each of the seven main chakras of the body.

Colour therapy can help to re balance these ‘wheels’ by applying the appropriate colour to the body and therefore re-balance our chakras.

The energy of colour can have an effect upon us on all levels, that is to say, physical, spiritual and emotional. Every cell in the body needs light energy – thus colour energy has widespread influence on the whole body.

Colour Therapy And The Aura

The colours of the aura reveal the nature of our disposition, health, temperament and general well-being, as well as responding to the vibrations around us. When we are unhappy, we de-magnetise ourselves. People colour other people’s lives. We are attracted to people whose colours are in harmony with ours. Many people are attracted to people whose colour energy they need at that time. We have all experienced the feeling of being sapped of our energy by another person.

Although we may have bias to one particular colour, a mature adult needs a balance of all the colours in his or her aura. It is only when we have a balance of all these colour energies and our chakra centers relating to these colours are open, that we can begin to have whole and lasting relationships with others and a good self-esteem about ourselves.

The Power Of The Mind

Thought waves are sent out from us in geometric patterns in space. Like ripples in a pond when we throw a stone into it. These thought waves can have harmonious or inharmonious vibrations. They affect other people who pick up these vibrations through their aura and they also affect our own etheric body. The etheric cannot discriminate between good and bad vibrations, so it can allow harmful thought waves through, which the copy-cat physical body manifests as illness.

When we use our minds with our breathing it has a powerful effect and we can change the conditions around us. We can cleanse negative feelings and thoughts by breathing in the light and breathing out all that is negative, harmful and impure.

Colour Breathing Exercise For Health

  1. Make sure you are in a quiet contemplative state of mind.
  2. Breathe in the colour you desire. Magnetic colours draw in from the earth up through your feet. Electric colours draw down through your crown chakra. Draw in green horizontally through your heart chakra.
  3. Do this three times.
  4. Send the colour to the area you wish to heal. Imagine it working on that area i.e bringing relief from pain, healing the cells and tissues.
  5. Breathe out the colour into the space around you.
  6. Offer thanks for all that you have received.
  7. Breathe normally and repeat the whole process several times a day.

You can do this imagining any colour you choose. Imagine the coloured ray pouring into you, reaching to your fingertips, up your arms and into your solar-plexus and circulating around the body.

Remember that colour has wave lengths which affect living tissue. It is through the etheric body that you can influence your own physical body. In order to influence the hardware of the body, we need to change the software of the mind.

In order to do this we must visualise what we want and not what we do not want. Visualise the desired blueprint across to the etheric body. Since thought has a vibration, we must think what we want, as well as visualise it strongly. Vague thoughts never accomplish anything!

PINK: Use pink for love and to promote self-love. Also for tired and aching muscles, wrinkles and puffiness.

PURPLE: Cleanses both physical and emotional disturbances. Purifies the system.

SPRING GREEN: To eliminate bad habits and acquire new ones. Purifies the blood and good for circulation problems.

GRASS GREEN: For success and to attract wealth, only for your highest good and not for egotistical reasons.

APRICOT/PEACH: Removes pain, but does not cure it. Also good for releasing constrictions.

TURQUOISE: Relieves respiratory ailments, arthritis and excess fat when alternated with pink. Cleansing and brings freshness.

BLUE: Brings peace and calm. Soothes and heals. Good for sore throats, ears and eyes. Reduces swellings and fever or any hot condition.
